Be what you want to attract

Cheryl Lynn Smith

Welcome! My name is Cheryl Lynn Smith and I’m so glad you’re here joining me on a journey to a more abundant life.

I grew up with parents who were always encouraging, who taught me the basics of life and helped me to understand how the world worked. They wanted to give me the tools I needed to be a successful person and to live a life of happiness. However, as you and I both know, parents can’t teach you everything. At some point, we all grow up and are introduced to the world where we face new challenges and learn tough lessons of circumstance, lessons called “life.”

I married at a young age and brought three beautiful children into the world. Life seemed perfect, with the occasional hiccup along the way, but we were living in the moment and thriving in our passion of music. Then one of life’s lessons hit. Cancer. My husband had just been given the dreadful news. I couldn’t believe it. What were we going to do? How would we survive? How would we live? Well, let me tell you. We fought. That’s what we did. He was given 3 months to live, but he shocked the doctors and gave us three years. Nonetheless, life’s lessons were in full bloom. We learned a lot during that time, and even more after his passing.

At the age of 27, with three young children by my side and a widow, I was trying to figure out where to begin and what to do next. My parents didn’t prepare me for this part of the journey, but they did always show me how to push forward and keep moving. So I kept going. Life was not going to stop me from being the mom I needed to be and learning how to survive.

The next year was tough. We lived through one issue after the next, while still grieving the loss of a wonderful husband and father. As much as I wanted to believe things would be ok, there were too many hurdles to go over. So we filed bankruptcy. To some this was horrible, but to us, it was a fresh start. It was a way to rebuild our lives, and that we did.

The years that followed were definitely not absent of “lessons learned.” At one point I had three jobs to make ends meet while learning how to rebuild my credit. I was also helping to shape the lives of children who still needed their father. There was so much to learn and I was overwhelmed. It seemed there were always more questions than answers especially in trying to understand the “big picture.”

With time, and through perseverance and lots of prayers, I went back to school to finish a B.S. in Marketing (and later an MBA) and began cultivating a full time career with paid vacation and benefits. That was a big deal for me. That was a big deal for us. We were finally at a point where we weren’t struggling as much and we could enjoy life without simply staying afloat.

Today, I live my life with excitement and in expectation of all that is yet to come in my journey. Through trials, mishaps and misfortunes to achievements, triumphs and successes, I can say that I made it. I’ve learned to never give up. To keep fighting and to show up to every day with gratitude. Is it easy? Of course not. But everyday you get stronger and become more resilient. Life’s lessons are not given without a price, and the closer you sit to the front, where the results will be more rewarding, the more expensive the tickets will be.

I have so much to share with you. Lessons that will change your life and those that will make your life more simple and those that will offer great results if you put in the work. No matter where you are in your journey, you must keep moving forward and Live Your Now!
